Ingredients

  • For the Naan Dough
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon instant dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup warm water not hot
  • 1 tablespoon oil neutral or olive
  • For the Garlic Butter Topping
  • 2 tablespoons butter or ghee
  • 2 –3 fresh garlic cloves finely minced
  • Optional: chopped fresh coriander for garnish

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Measuring cups & spoons
  • Rolling Pin
  • Heavy skillet or cast-iron pan
  • Brush or spoon for butter

Method

  1. Step 1: Make the Dough
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Add warm water slowly and mix until a soft dough forms. Add oil and knead for about 4–5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Step 2: Rest the Dough
  4. Cover the dough with a clean cloth and let it rest for 15 minutes. This step is essential for soft naan—do not skip.
  5. Step 3: Divide & Shape
  6. Divide the rested dough into 4 equal portions. Roll each portion into an oval or teardrop shape. Thickness should be medium—not too thin.
  7. Step 4: Cook the Naan
  8. Heat a dry skillet on high heat. Place one naan onto the hot pan. When bubbles form and light brown spots appear (about 1–2 minutes), flip and cook the other side briefly.
  9. Step 5: Garlic Butter Finish
  10. Remove naan from heat immediately. Brush generously with melted butter mixed with fresh garlic. Sprinkle coriander if using.
  11. Repeat with remaining dough.

Notes

This garlic naan isn’t about perfection—it’s about comfort. Soft, warm, and gently fragrant, it’s meant to be torn by hand, shared slowly, and eaten when the mood calls for something grounding and familiar.
